What I will do

In this rapidly developing world, I frequently see cases where technology is misused for crimes or only belongs to a small proportion of society. Technology should be used by everybody, and for the good. It is true that there are difficulties harnessing new technologies like AI, but I believe the effort to harness it is never meaningless. That effort is what I want to devote myself into; I want to make sure technology is used ethically.

That is why I was involved in so many different projects that used technology to contribute to society. Some projects include :

-A robot arm that can assist physical laborers to lift heavy objects

-A chatbot that provides guidance to self-reliant youths

-A audio-based CAPTCHA that is simple-to-use for the blind

-A personality test website made to advertise the UNESCO cultural heritage of Korea

-An internship at a coding education company

-A research on enhancing the performance of adversarial attacks on voice conversion, which was proposed to effectively prevent crimes that involve voice conversion(an AI technology that imitates voices of someone else)

My projects show my vision. My vision is that

Technology should be used to maximize its benefits for people while minimizing the potential side effects that could harm their lives.
Technology should benefit every person in society, especially the minorities who are really in need of it.

In order to make such an effort and impact the society, the most crucial thing is to understand the technology itself. As a student interested in computer science, I want to continue researching in that field. I want to delve deep into the field and enjoy the development of it. Gradually, I will gain expertise in technology in general, especially computer science. That is why I want to get into university; university will provide me with expertise and experience that, in the future, will assist me in very important ways.

After gaining expertise, I want to use my credibility and knowledge to impact society. I think the only people who should be eligible to discuss the ethical perspective of technology are the people who know it well enough. For example, when we decide the future of an AI research company or enact regulatory laws, I can only be involved with expertise and experience. Becoming the "eligible" person is the first step; acting out as that person is the second.
